COEUR d’ALENE — Tyler Rambo faces eight more felony charges for allegedly shooting at police officers July 4 at Coeur d’Alene City Park.

The 18-year-old was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury on eight counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, each carrying 10-year sentences.

Rambo also faces an attempted second-degree murder charge and an aggravated assault charge for allegedly shooting at a person in City Park on the Fourth of July in what prosecutors have called a gang-related incident.

He has pleaded not guilty to those charges. He also faces two misdemeanor drug charges.

The new counts will be addressed in an arraignment before First District Judge Cynthia K.C. Meyer, which has not yet been scheduled. In that hearing, Rambo, who is in jail on $1 million bail for each charge, will enter pleas to the latest charges.

Rambo was shot after he pointed a gun at police in downtown Coeur d’Alene moments after attempting to shoot another man at Independence Point, according to police. Police say he also fired once at them.

He lost his legs as a result of being shot 14 times. Rambo is seeking $9 million or more after his lawyer notified the city of Coeur d’Alene that a lawsuit is coming.

That attorney, former chief deputy prosecutor Rick Baughman, said Rambo’s medical bills cost $3,000 weekly and will likely continue throughout his life.

“He will need assisted living, physical therapy and occupational therapy,” Baughman wrote in the tort claim.

Rambo will also incur the cost of prosthetics and ambulatory equipment. Baughman said his client wants the matter resolved, but if the case proceeds to court, “he will also be seeking attorney’s fees and costs.”

If he posts bail, the court has prohibited Rambo from being within a mile of the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, of having guns and using drugs.
