Richard Atkinson, joined by students and teachers last week, celebrated his completion of 1,000 miles walked for his Oldest Man Walking campaign to raise funds for Whitefish Schools.

He is in the midst of his third campaign to raise funds for school projects, his first campaign in 2009 and then his second in 2014 raised about $320,000. During the first two, he walked a total of 937 miles and for the third he set a goal of walking 1,000 miles.

This time, Atkinson is walking to raise at least $100,000 for the FREEFLOW Club and the Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship both at Whitefish High School.

Donations to the Oldest Man Walking fundraiser can be made through the Whitefish Community Foundation and are tax deductible. For more information, contact the foundation at 406-863-1781 or visit www.whitefishcommunityfoundation.org.
