WARDEN — The body of missing Othello resident Arthur Valentino Madrigal was recovered this week from a lake in south Grant County.

After an extensive seven-week search which included many diving missions, Madrigal’s body was recovered on Wednesday from Canal Lake, about six miles southwest of Warden, according to law enforcement. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office received help from numerous agencies, including sonar support from Spokane County.

Madrigal was reported missing on Aug. 3 from nearby Heart Lake, where he arrived and in the company of a 20-year-old female. Heart Lake is only a couple of hundred feet away from Canal Lake, and both are part of the large cluster of lakes known as the Seep Lakes.

Madrigal’s remains were positively identified, and his family has been notified. Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy from the King County Medical Examiner’s office, where the body was taken. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement declined to state whether there is a person of interest in the case.
