Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 3 months AGO
More than 100 people braved the snowy weather on Saturday for the North Idaho Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Coeur d’Alene. The event, hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association, raised $52,000 for Alzheimer’s research and to support local families affected by the disease.
The top fundraising team for the event was Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene, which raised nearly $3,300. The local group is part of a national Walk to End Alzheimer’s team that hopes to raise more than $100,000 for the cause this year.
More than 26,000 people in Idaho live with Alzheimer’s disease; 85,000 Idahoans are unpaid family caregivers that provide support to a loved one with dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only one that cannot be prevented, cured or slowed.
Donations for the North Idaho Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be accepted through Dec. 31.
