Warden officer shoots perfect score

Warden — Jonathan Balas, Warden’s police officer in training, shot a perfect score, reported Warden Police Chief Rick Martin during a regular Warden City Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
“He shot a perfect score with a pistol on the range which is usually unheard-of,” Martin said.
Balas shot 500 out of 500 during a test at the academy.
“Everyone is there,” Martin said. “There’s a lot of pressure.”
Balas joined the force in May of 2019 and has been at the academy since August.
In other business, the council approved the splitting of a farm unit north of Warden that is owned by the city. The unit was split into two pieces. The small of the two pieces was approved for surplusing. The larger piece is farmed by the Warden School District.
The council authorized the mayor to sign a contract with Grey and Osborne for inspection of the reservoir.
“We have a number of facilities that need to be updated or upgraded,” said Kriss Shuler, Warden city clerk. “To start the process, we need a review.”
The stability of the structure, was well as the inside of the lining, needs to be checked. The inspection was included in the 2019 budget.

Othello looking for donations for annual Christmas baskets
OTHELLO — About 45 years ago, four volunteer firefighters decided to make Christmas food and gift baskets and give them to seven families who needed some extra help. The next year, they gave baskets to more families. In the years since, the Othello Community Christmas Baskets has become a city-wide event with various groups raising money, food, warm clothes and toys for Othello families in need.
