Kaboom!

When the town of Beanville is blown to Smithereens, the poor Bean children (Mexican Jumping, Baylee Oulman; Coco, Yona Soltis; Coffee, Rachel Dick; Cranberry, Sarah McKerracher; Garbanzo, Gracie Aller; Green, Karli Hamilton; Kidney, Shirley Kin; Lima, Kyla Brown; Navy, Savannah Cronin; Pinto, Jordan Rosenau; String, Elly Pincher; and Vanilla, Megan Thurlow) were far afield gathering cow pies with their tenderfoot teacher, Chuck Stake (Ashton Bonner). The newly orphaned Beans are invited by Cornelia Meal (Courtney Hunter) and her lovely niece, Sweet Onion (Abbie Baker), to nearby Cornbread Flats to stay at their hotel and chili parlor.

Meanwhile, local banker and all around bad guy Con Carne (Iker Veiga) and his hench-people, Sal Sa (Madelyn Mattila) and Hal Apenio (Reilly Donahoe), are trying to con their way to Corny’s secret chili ingredient in order to win a lucrative canned good contract. Hilarity ensues as Chuck Stake (in disguise) and western “high-tech” Sheriff Henry Honey (Silas James) put their sleuthing skills together to discover what Con Carne is up to. Punning their way to a surprise conclusion, these flavorful characters, with a little help from a witty narrator (Ali Terry), cook up a mighty storm of laughter.

And, by the way, just where is Smithereens?.

Join us at the Sandpoint High School Mime & Masque production of the dinner theater melodrama “The Secret of Cornbread Flats”. Playing Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the SHS Auditorium, doors open at 6:45 p.m. Be ready to laugh and chortle as the plot unfolds as you enjoy your delicious supper of none other than chili and cornbread — even the audience gets into character at this show. Top off with brownies for dessert as you cheer on Chuck Stake and Sheriff Honey as they figure out how to foil the dastardly plans of Con Carne, Sal Sa and Hal Apenio.

Other cast member are Denali Terry (Ambrosia Kobb), Cresanna Authier (Deputy Bud Dererred), and Parker McPherson (Mel Hornally).

Tickets are available from cast members, online at brownpapertickets.com/event/4411058 and at the door if there are any remaining.

Tickets are $15, all proceeds benefit SHS Mime & Masque Drama Club as the head off to the Idaho State Drama competitions this fall.
