WHITEBIRD — A Sandpoint man was fatally injured in a Friday evening crash on U.S. Highway 95 at milepost 223, just south of Whitebird.

Idaho State Police said Nicholas Holland, 20, of Sandpoint was northbound about 6:12 p.m. in a 1996 Dodge pickup on the highway when he sideswiped a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Theresa Saunders, 26, of Pullman, Wash. Holland’s vehicle then crossed the southbound lane and down a 200-foot embankment.

Holland was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger Wesley, Holland, also 20, of Sandpoint, was transported to Syringa Hospital in Grangeville, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Saunders and her passenger, Benjamin Saunders, 26, of Pullman, sustained no injuries and were both wearing seatbelts.

Nicholas Holland was not wearing a seatbelt, however, ISP officials said it is uncertain if Wesley Holland was wearing a seatbelt.

Next of kin has been notified. An investigation is ongoing.
