POST FALLS — Sandpoint boys soccer battled through pouring rain Tuesday night, but couldn’t quite pull out a victory as they fell 1-0 to Post Falls.
Bulldogs head coach Tanner French said the team did everything necessary to come away with a win.
We definitely had equal opportunities and it just happen to be an unfortunate circumstance that led to their goal,” he said, “but we definitely had chances in the first half and then very late in the second half, good spells of possession. Pretty much one of the best games we’ve played all year and I always tell the boys the score line doesn’t always reflect that.”
The sole goal of the game came in the 63rd minute when a cross by the Trojans slipped through the fingers of senior goalkeeper Will Hawkins and slowly rolled into the net.
It was a fluke goal that French said didn’t reflect how well his team fought.
“It was back and forth up until that point,” he said. “I was pretty proud of the boys for how they were committed for the full 80 minutes and they stuck to a game plan that was new to them and they responded with a good attitude.
The Bulldogs will play at Coeur d’Alene 6 p.m. Thursday.
“I’m looking forward to the boys building off of this game because there were a lot of positives,” French said.
Second half — 1, Post Falls, unknown, 63:00
