The track in front of the grandstand was filled with many excited, young cheerleaders during last Friday’s football game. For the youngsters, this was the culmination of a fun-packed day at Cheer Camp. Eighty-one children participated in the program, and 68 of them performed at the halftime show.
BFHS Cheerleaders Ember Allred, Bella Sims, Carrie Runyan, Shaylynn Richards, Nevaeh Elliston and Hailey Kelsey all hosted the camp, with assistance from the BCMS cheerleaders.
Six young boys were part of the program as well.
“The team is striving to increase the male to female ratio in cheer so the team can advance as a co-ed cheer team in future events,” said Cheerleading coach Andria Hedrick.
During the camp, the Future Badger Cheerleaders learned a performance routine and three cheers — Badger Power, Go Big Blue, and Victory.
“They also learned how to stunt and tumble — several of them were excited to tell me that before cheer camp they didn’t know how to cartwheel and now they can cartwheel and do a round off,” said Hedrick.
The future cheerleaders had the opportunity to play games and dance to favorite songs. They were provided a healthy snack and above all — got to meet many new friends.
“Thanks to our amazing sponsors, 98 Mechanical and Peaches & Bows, we were able to give each participant a T-shirt and sparkly bow or badger blue headband for the boys,” said Hedrick.
There was plenty of cheer to go around as the future Badger cheerleaders performed to the packed grandstand during the game.
“This camp was a huge success with almost double the amount of participants from last year,” said Hedrick. “We are currently planning another Future Badger Cheer Camp for the winter sports season (basketball/wrestling). More information will be released as soon as we have dates available.”
