Timberlake romps; Lakeland, St. Maries lose in heartbreakers

BONNERS FERRY — Joey Follini threw for 191 yards and five touchdowns to power the Timberlake Tigers past the Bonners Ferry Badgers 62-13 in the Intermountain League opener for both schools on Friday.

Josh Yanez had five catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns for Timberlake, which led 41-6 at halftime. Timberlake outgained Bonners Ferry 312-87.

Louis Powell, Jacob James and Jack McDonald also had touchdown receptions for Timberlake (6-0), which hosts Priest River next Friday.

Bonners Ferry (0-6) hosts Kellogg next Friday.

RATHDRUM — Brandon Furey threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns for the Hawks, who fell short to the Eagles in a nonleague game at Corbit Field.

Furey hit Colton Boettcher to cut the deficit to 42-41 in the final moments,, but the two-point conversion failed.

Boettcher had nine catches for 125 yards and Ammon Munyer had 86 yards receiving and a touchdown for Lakeland.

John White ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns for Lakeland (2-5), which opens 4A Inland Empire League play at Sandpoint next Friday.

ST. MARIES — Eli Gibson ran for 156 yards and two touchdowns for the Lumberjacks, but a 3-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tesher Harris in the fourth quarter gave the visiting Bulldogs the Central Idaho League win over the Lumberjacks.

Gibson’s second score of the night, a 51-yard touchdown run gave St. Maries a 12-6 halftime lead. Grangeville tied the game on a 10-yard touchdown by Caleb Frei in the third quarter, shutting out St. Maries in the second half.

St. Maries (4-3) has a bye next week and concludes the regular season at Orofino on Oct. 25.

Grangeville is 4-3.
