KELLOGG/MULLAN — Both Kellogg and Mullan High Schools celebrated their respective homecomings last week and much like Wallace High School a few weeks ago, school spirit is alive and well in the Silver Valley.

Both schools saw a lot more student participation than they had in the last few years, which made the short school week feel like a full one as they crammed everything into four days.

“This was one of the best homecomings I’ve been apart of in my 25 years as an educator,” said Kellogg Principal Curt Bayer. “We had excellent participation and it really felt like the school spirit was through the roof.”

Kellogg kicked off their week with the traditional bonfire after they cruised through the town to see all of the businesses that had decorated for the week.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights were reserved for volleyball matches — more on that on page A5 — and then on Thursday it was all about purple and gold spirit with multiple pep assemblies and a massive parade through town.

Later that night at the football game, seniors Cierra Brandt and Gavin Luna were crowned homecoming queen and king by their classmates.

“You could really feel the community support this year,” Bayer said. “It was a terrific week.”

In Mullan, they really went big with the traditional homecoming events including their own bonfire, as well as a car smash, they had several other activities including pep rallies and games for the kids to play.

MHS Principal Don Kotschevar was very pleased with his school’s engagement during the week, as well as the full crowd at the football game.

“Our students had such a great week. From the dressing up to the after school activities,” Kotschevar said. “Everything we did was well attended, including the bonfire and the football game.”

At halftime of the game, seniors Skye Gallaway and Jayna Petit were named homecoming king and queen.
