Extras in excess: Maidens drop a pair

For Ronan volleyball, the idiomatic adage “so close and yet so far” is becoming a recurrent theme with an uncanny frequency this season.
An eyebrow raising seven sets have extended into extras thus far this season for the Maidens.
In a pair of matches this past week, the Maidens split the first two sets. Thereafter, then fell behind in the third set despite posting numbers among the high teens, only to get barely edged out in the fourth set that extended into extras.
Last Tuesday, the Maidens tangled with Mission for round two of their cross-county Rez rivalry wrangle, then hosted the visiting Frenchtown Broncs this past Thursday, both nonconference. Madeline McCrea combined for more than two dozen kills over the pair of contests, while senior Regan Clairmont dug out more than two dozen digs over the course of the two matches. Blockin-maniac Maiden McCrea combined for more than a baker’s dozen blocks in combination for both games.
The Maidens will have already hosted Libby for Senior Night on Tuesday, then travel to Browning Thursday.

Pirate plaque preference Burger-larized by Bulldogs
At Smith Fields in Whitefish for the 2018 State A boys soccer championship, the Polson Pirates and the Northern A conference champion Bulldogs would put on quite a show in an energetic quest to claim the coveted state A crown last Saturday. This would be just the third foray to the championship match in the history of the Pirate boys’ soccer program, who hoped that the idiomatic expression “third time’s a charm” would play out in Polson’s favor.
Scarlets have new coach; Mission returns four starters
The 2018-19 rendition of the Arlee Scarlets have to be rated as within the scope of a reloading phase given that the lion’s share of their offensive firepower returns along with further infusion from the transfer of Louetta Conko-Camel.
