SANDPOINT — Lakeland did almost everything to keep its season alive in Tuesday’s 4A Region 1 boys soccer opener at Pine Street Field.

Goals by Bradley Munson in the 18th minute, then another by Pete Intarapornudom in the 23rd gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage in the first half.

But a goal by Braeden Dressell in the 77th minute was the difference as the Sandpoint Bulldogs beat the Hawks 4-3 at Pine Street Field, ending Lakeland’s season at 3-12-1.

“Lakeland battled,” Sandpoint coach Tanner French said. “And I’m happy for them because after talking to their coach, it sounded like they possibly weren’t even going to have a program this year.”

Sandpoint (7-7-1) tied the match before halftime, then answered Jared Sherman’s goal in the 46th minute with a score by Sims Macdonald to tie the match at 3-3 in the 69th minute.

Sandpoint travels to Moscow on Thursday for the championship game, with the winner advancing to the state tournament at Brothers Park in Caldwell Oct. 24-26.
