Flathead, Glacier wrap up regular season soccer

MISSOULA — The Flathead Braves finished off the regular season with a bang, beating Missoula Big Sky on Thursday in a Western AA game, 8-1.

“It was a great way to end the season,” Flathead coach Zach Brenneman said. “I think the players worked hard and had a lot of fun in this game. We came out of this game healthy and ready to go get a win in our playoff game.”

Jalen Hawes assisted on two goals and scored two of his own. Timothy Weymouth and Arsen Sokolove each scored two goals.

AJ Apple scored a goal and had an assist.”

Flathead (7-6-1) faces Glacier on Tuesday at Legends Stadium for its first playoff game. Time to be determined.

MISSOULA — Glacier (6-4-4) couldn’t find the back of the net in its final regular season game against Sentinel but its looking forward to the postseason and a matchup with crosstown rival Flathead.

“We had a well fought game today,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “They nicked a goal on us early, kind of just a broken play. We played really well defensively. I’m happy in that regard, just couldn’t find the back of the net today.”

“We grew more today and made it back safely. We’ll be preparing now that we know what’s in front of us,” Billiet added.

Regarding Flathead Tuesday: It’ll just be fun to see one of us off to the state quarterfinal. It’s gonna be that much better because it’s gonna feel like a championship match.”
