Firefighters to hold Fill the Boot today
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 5 years, 3 months AGO
Members of Selkirk Fire are again coming together with the Muscular Dystrophy Association with boots in hand, asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to MDA for the fire fighters’ 65th annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign.
Selkirk firefighters will be at Super 1 Foods, 624 Larch St., today from noon to 6 p.m.
For 65 years, firefighters have stood on the front lines to help MDA raise critical funds to help transform the lives of kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.
Funds raised through Selkirk Fire L2319 Fill the Boot drive help the MDA save lives and lift those up in need, by providing the MDA with vital resources and support, including state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the MDA Care Center at St. Luke’s Hospital in Spokane.
The IAFF and MDA are collaborating on a campaign to encourage states to expand newborn screening programs by adding tests for specific neuromuscular disorders so that all newborns with these conditions can have the best possible chance at receiving the care and support services they need as early as possible. They have also helped fund innovative research resulting in 8 FDA approved treatments to date, with many more in the pipeline.
They also help give local kids the opportunity to experience the best week of the year where anything is possible at MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the partnership of the IAFF. We are honored to partner with them as we work towards a cure for families living with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS and related diseases,” said MDA Development Director, Tori Ripple.
