Gerald ‘Jerry’ Ray Millsaps, 70

Gerald Millsaps was born on April 15, 1949, in Orland, Calif., to Patricia Jane Hayton-Johnston and Merlin Lee Millsaps. He grew up in northern California, where he attended elementary school until the eighth grade. Jerry then attended and graduated from high school in Seibert, Colo., in 1967. Following graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy (in 1968), and served honorably for four years. He was a member of the Pile Drivers Union Local 2382, Spokane Wash.; a longtime member of Roy Racy VFW Post 1473 and a longtime member of Spirit Lake Lodge #57 A.F. & A.M.

Jerry moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, where he raised his two sons, William James Millsaps and Raymond Dean Millsaps. He was a member of the Kootenai County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, Wyatt and Bentley, hunting and fishing and riding horses. His hobbies included team roping with his buddies and spending extra time with his family.

Jerry passed away on Oct. 16, 2019, in the comfort of his home in Spirit Lake at the age of 70. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Jane Hayton-Johnston; stepfather, Carrol Johnston and father, Merlin Lee Millsaps. Jerry is survived in death by his brother and wife, Ted and Marcy Millsaps; sister and husband, Gayle and John Dunn; brother, Larry Johnston; sister and husband, Shannon and Hal Reeder; son, William James Millsaps and wife, Kimberly Millsaps and their son, Wyatt James Millsaps; son, Raymond Dean Millsaps and his son, Bentley Dean Millsaps, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jerry will be deeply missed by all.

There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, at Greenwood Cemetery, 5579 Vermont St., Spirit Lake, ID 83869. A reception will follow at the VFW, 32119 N. Fifth St. (Highway 41), Spirit Lake, ID 83869. Please join the family in celebrating the life of Jerry Millsaps.

Yates Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
