Sandpoint runs away from Lakeland; Timberlake, Lakeside post victories
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 years, 3 months AGO
SANDPOINT — For Lakeland, it’s all about what happens next.
A win over visiting Moscow, there’s chaos.
Lose, and the Hawks stay home.
Sandpoint beat Lakeland 48-20 in a 4A Inland Empire League game at Barlow Stadium to finish the regular season 5-3, 1-1 in league.
Moscow, which had a bye this week is 4-3, 1-0.
Should Lakeland win next Friday, all three teams will finish 1-1 in league. The top two teams advance to the state playoffs.
“We performed poorly tonight,” Lakeland coach Tim Kiefer said. “We didn’t execute our game plan, nor did we play physical. We just got outphysicaled tonight.”
Colton Boettcher had two touchdown receptions from Brandon Furey for Lakeland.
Gerrit Cox ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns for Sandpiont.
“We came out looking to stop the pass, and they ran a little more than we thought they would,” Kiefer said. “Maybe it was due to the weather, but Sandpoint was more physical at the line of scrimmage.”

PLUMMER — Tucker Sanchez found Jayson Hall on a 35-yard touchdown pass — the second score between the two on the night — with 1:27 remaining as the Knights held off the Eagles, a co-op between Highland, Nezperce and Culdesac High in a nonleague game.
“Tucker had a good night and JJ had another good game for us,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “We kind of spread the ball around and moved the ball up and down the field, but had some trouble with conversions. We had a slow first half and a lot of penalties that cost us in some good spots. But I was proud of the boys. They did a good job of doing what they were supposed to do.”
Hall scored on a 55-yard touchdown run on the opening play of the second half and finished with 100 yards rushing for Lakeside (5-0), which outgained Lewis County 321-172.
Lakeside took the lead for good on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez to Lazarus Iron Cloud.
Lakeside faces Mullan-St. Regis next Friday at John Drager Field in Mullan.
Lewis County is 1-4.
