WENATCHEE, Wash. — Alexis Calderilla stopped 10 shots in goal for the Knights in a Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Cardinals.
Isaiah Damschen had four saves in the second half for NIC (5-6-3, 3-4-2 NWAC, 11 points), which hosts Columbia Basin at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
“They were just cleaner in their defending today,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “On their second goal, Isaiah had a hand on it, but we should have cleared it when we had a chance and it resulted in them getting a high percentage shot. In terms of possession, it was a pretty even game, but we need to do a better job of recognizing the high-percentage shot or making an extra pass. If we do that, we’ll get more high-quality chances.”
NIC trails Wenatchee Valley (5-3-4, 4-2-3, 15 points) by four points for third in the East Region. The top three teams advance to the NWAC playoffs starting Nov. 6.
First half — 1, WVCC, Erik Owen (Luis Rodriguez), 3:00. Second half — 2, WVCC, Ignacio Castillo (unassisted), 59:57.
