The Emerald Isle will soon be painted red.

Red Hot, that is.

The Red Hot Mamas have received a special invitation from the Honorable Paul McAuliffe, Lord Mayor of Dublin, and the Honorable Michael Sheahan, Mayor of Limerick, together with Music Celebrations International to perform at Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival in 2020.

"It's still hard to believe. It's like a fairy tale," Red Hot Mamas founder Mikki Stevens said Friday. "It's funny how many of us have a fantasy, a love affair with Ireland and going there. The Emerald Isle, the places we'll get to see, experience the Irish people. A lot of people just have this fairyland fantasy about going to the Emerald Isle someday and we're doing it."

The outgoing and rollicking entertainment group, known for its use of grocery carts and walkers in comedic dance routines and parade performances, will spend about nine days in Ireland. The Mamas will perform in a Dublin stage show alongside Irish performers to benefit a local charity and they'll dance in Limerick’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, bringing joy wherever they go as they travel through the country.

The North Idaho Mamas will be joined by a Red Hot Mamas group from southern Texas that they performed with during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York two years ago.

“After years in the planning, it’s finally coming to fruition," said Red Hot Mamas administrative director Karen Welts. "Irish parades are culturally quite different from U.S. parades, requiring us to research to create specialization for our performances."

Stevens said she calls the routines they're cooking up "Cyndi Lauper meets Mary Poppins via Johnny Depp."

About 40 Mamas will be going on the trip, which will include three nights’ stay in a real castle in Dublin, an Irish dancing workshop at the Bru Boru Cultural Centre and a traditional Irish music session at the Doolin Music House. Private chartered motor coaches will take them on tours through Dublin, Galway, Cork, Blarney, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Rock of Cashel, Bunratty Castle, St. John's Castle, King's Island, River Shannon, Adare, Cliffs of Moher and Clonmacnoise.

A few spots are still available for any who want to join the Mamas on their Irish tour. A Dialogue n' Dance get-together with the Red Hot Mamas will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at One Place Church, 190 Centa Ave., Hayden. Those who attend are encouraged to wear green as they learn about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and they should prepare to enjoy a wee bit o' dancing, too.
