The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation is hosting its 13th annual Voices of the Wilderness celebration and fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake at 6 p.m. This year, the keynote speakers will be author and historian Frederick Swanson.
Swanson is author of two books about conservation history in Montana and Idaho. His book “Where Roads Will Never Reach; Wilderness and Its Visionaries in the Northern Rockies” will be the subject of his talk and presentation. He will speak regarding the conservation battle fought mainly by hunters, anglers, outfitters, fish and game biologists, hikers and horsepackers and how they fought to protect the special places that now make up The Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. “Where Roads Will Never Reach” tells the story of how ordinary people halted resource development in these, and dozens of other key wildland areas.
Musical guests Moonshine Mountain Band will entertain with their unique combination of American, folk and country music throughout the evening.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at http://www.bmwf.org/events or at the door. Space is limited, so guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and to bring cash for the bar and for raffle tickets.
Auction items and raffle prizes include artwork, photography, pottery, leatherwork, outdoor gear, handmade jewelry, craft beverages, and more. Raffle items will be given away throughout the evening. There is also a wine grab for wine enthusiasts to snag a high quality bottle of wine at a bargain price.
Proceeds from this event help the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation keep trails open in the Bob and helps to strengthen the next generation of stewards by getting adult and youth into the wilderness.
Key financial donors making this event possible include Parkside Credit Union, Greg Schatz Builder, Sweetgrass Psychological Services, Dropstone Outfitting, River Design Group, Mindful Designs, First Interstate Bank, and The Base Camp.
The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation is a nonprofit wilderness stewardship and conservation organization working in the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. Learn more online at www.bmwf.org.
