The Flathead County Commissioners on Wednesday appointed Debo Powers of Polebridge to the vacant House District 3 legislative seat.
Powers, a Democrat, takes over as legislator after Zac Perry’s resignation on Sept. 1. Perry had held the seat since being elected in 2014.
House District 3 covers Columbia Falls, the North Fork and the U.S. 2 corridor to Glacier National Park.
Powers is a writer for the North Fork News and president of the North Fork Preservation Association.
“I am honored to have been appointed to represent the people of House District 3, and I look forward to getting to work to address the challenges in our community,” Powers said in a press release.
The commissioners voted unanimously to elect Powers over two other candidates, Gene Marcille and Jill Rocksund, both of Columbia Falls.
“We are very thankful as well that Gene Marcille and Jill Rocksund came forward; their participation in this process made it meaningful and possible,” said Lynn Stanley, chair of the Flathead County Democratic Central Committee.
