COEUR d’ALENE — Don't miss "The Foreigner," a hilarious, laugh-out-loud comedy written by Larry Shue and produced by Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy.

Nathan Hammond directs a live bluegrass band, setting the stage for a fishing lodge in rural Georgia. 'Froggy' Le Seuer (Justin Roberts), a British demolition expert who occasionally runs training sessions at a nearby army base, visits with his friend, a pathologically shy sci-fi editor named Charlie Baker (Jacob Unruh).

Charlie is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. So Froggy, before departing, tells owner Betty Meeks (Mariah Olivera) that Charlie hails from an exotic foreign country and speaks no English. No, nary a word. Once left alone while Froggy leaves on official business, the fun really begins. Charlie overhears more than he should as an ex-debutante (Sophie Anderson), her kid brother (Oskar Hepworth), a local minister (Ethan Reneau) and his redneck associate (Carson Benzinger) speak freely believing that Charlie doesn't understand a word being said.

Will our chronically bashful protagonist rise up and save the day? In a show where not everything is what it initially seems, through the hilarity of it all, the audience has the opportunity to examine the reality that looks can be deceiving and we should be weary of making skin-deep judgments.

Performances will be held at Charter Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday (2-for-1 if you come dressed like a country folk! Price of higher ticket if there is a disparity); Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 2 and 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for students, high school and younger; and $10 for adults. Parents, be advised: some rough language will be heard.

Tickets will be available at the door. Come early for great seats. Charter is at 4904 N. Duncan Drive, Coeur d'Alene.
