Michelle Lee Blackstone, 73

Michelle Lee Blackstone, 73, of Post Falls, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early on Thursday morning, Oct. 17, 2019, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House, in Coeur d’Alene.

She was born in Payette, Idaho, on July 23, 1946, and grew up and attended schools in Boise. On June 2, 1969, she married David Hugh Blackstone and had two children: Michelle (Shelley) Grace Blackstone and David Steven Blackstone. Over the next several years, she delivered pizzas for Chicago Connection and packages for UPS. She then returned to school and became an EMT, and soon after that she advanced to NEMTA, where she actively served with the Meridian Quick Response Unit, Ada County Paramedics and Desert View Fire Department. In 1980, she received EMT of the year award.

She moved to Post Falls in 1986, attended North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from the law enforcement program in May 1991. She then worked at the college as a security officer and in the city jail for a time before an accident disabled her.

In 1999, Michelle began attending North Country Chapel in Post Falls, where she became active in the children’s ministry until shortly before her passing. She loved working with the children, taking great joy in encouraging them to learn Bible verses and do their class work and homework — all of which earned ‘Bible Back Points’ to spend at the Sunday School Sow and Grow store each month. She faithfully managed this area of the ministry and her special attention and devotion will be missed.

Her hobbies included flower gardening, sewing, collecting colorful jewelry and reading to further her education on many subjects.

Michelle is survived by her daughter, Shelley and two grandchildren, CiYara and Brenden of Boise; her sister, Edna of Tucson, Ariz.; brother, James Broadband of Meridian, Idaho, and her beloved wolf dog, Sakaiaya — a faithful companion. She was preceded in death by her son, David (1979); husband, David and sister, Teresa Ann Black of Boise, Idaho and her mother Eunice Trott Broadband of Boise. (Formerly of Mobile, Ala., and a member of the Cherokee Indian Nation.)

A memorial service will be held in Boise by Michelle’s family later this month. At her request, any donations in lieu of flowers should be made to Hospice of North Idaho.
