Sophomore Alex Vogelsang went the distance with a 70-yard kickoff return as Thompson Falls rolled to an easy 55-0 win over Seeley-Swan in Montana 8-man high school football action Friday night.

The homestanding Blue Hawks rolled up 249 yards rushing and dominated on defense in capping their regular season record at 8-1. The Blue Hawks open the playoffs this weekend with a home game against Twin Bridges. The Montana High School Association has not announced if the game will be Friday or Saturday.

The loss dropped Seeley-Swan to 4-4 on the year.

Senior Trey Fisher ran for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Blue Hawk attack. Fellow senior Nate Wilhite chipped in a pair of rushing TDs and Thompson Falls controlled both sides of the ball.

After Vogelsang’s electrifying TD return, Fisher added to an opening quartering scoreboard assault when he plowed over from five yards out, staking the Blue Hawks to an early 13-0 lead. Tough defense, paced by Fisher’s team-high 13 tackles, repeatedly handed the ball back to the offense.

Wilhite scored Thompson Falls’ third touchdown of the opening stanza on a 13-yard run, which was followed a short time later by a one-yard plunge by Fisher. The quarter ended with the Blue Hawks ahead 27-0.

Wilhite added another TD to the total in the second quarter, this one a 13-yard dash into the end zone that boosted the lead to 34-0. Junior wideout Roman Sparks hauled in a 20-yard scoring toss from Fisher before the first half ended, giving the Blue Hawks a commanding 40-0 lead.

With underclassmen getting lots of playing time in the second half, and the defense continuing to pitch a shutout, Thompson Falls went on to score two more touchdowns before the game ended.

Senior lineman Justin Miller, listed at 5-feet-9-inch, 279 pounds, got in on the scoring action in the third period when he bulldozed over the goal line from 5 yards out. Jordan Fisher, a sophomore running back closed out the points binge in the final quarter when he also scooted to pay dirt, this one a 5-yard dive.
