At one point or another, everyone has an idea they would love to bring to fruition. But bringing an idea from concept to completion can be challenging to say the least, especially when it comes to starting your own business. There are issues of financing, marketing, staffing and more.

On Tuesday, November 12, 7B Women will welcome Kara Berlin as their guest speaker at the 7B Women monthly luncheon. Her story is sure to inspire.

Kara had just graduated from Gonzaga University when she moved to Sandpoint in 2013 and was set to take on the corporate world. But life has a funny way of throwing curve balls.

She began her marketing career with Coldwater Creek, never imagining she would be hanging up her posh pantsuits or abandon the security of pension plans and trade them in for rubber rain gear. But when Kara was invited to crew as a commercial fisherman in Alaska, she jumped at the opportunity and embraced the adventure. That is when life changed dramatically.

Kara quickly discovered that working on the water filled a void in her mind, body and spirit. “The tides continued to pull me north,” said Kara who looks forward to returning every summer.

Together with her fiancé, Taran White, Kara founded Thunder’s Catch, which sustainably fuels the greater Inland Northwest with beautiful, nourishing wild salmon to enjoy year-round.

Their vision and passion have blossomed into a successful business, as they currently celebrate their fifth year of business.

“Kara has been able to take her passion for food, environmental stewardship, sustainable systems and creative design and has made an impact in so many communities. Her talk is sure to inspire anyone who has even the slightest interest in becoming an entrepreneur,” said Jenn Markwardt, 7B Women board member.

The 7B Women’s November luncheon will take place on Tuesday, November 12 from 11:45am to 1pm at Tango Café and is open to everyone in the community. The cost is $21 or $16 if you are a member of 7B Women, Inc. Individual memberships cost $50 per year and can be paid online at the group’s website, 7BWomen.com.

Please note that due to the high participation in the past and so Tango Café can adequately prepare for the luncheon, pre-registration is highly encouraged.

Register online at 7BWomen.com and you can also purchase your raffle tickets ahead of time to avoid standing in line at check in and optimizing your networking time. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.

Clines giving talk on endearing relationships

With February upon us, thoughts turn to Valentine’s Day. Whether you love it or dread it, it is a time to reflect and focus on nurturing the relationships in our lives. Over the years, many of us here in Sandpoint have turned to world renowned psychiatrist and author Foster Cline to guide us through those complicated moments. Whether it is a relationship with a child or a spouse, Dr. Cline has provided us with thoughtful advice through his books and countless local speaking engagements.
