OTHELLO — Candidates from contested races in Othello expressed their point of view on various subjects during a candidate forum held on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
One of the common themes among the candidates was their love for Othello and wanting to contribute to its continued success.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity of putting back into the community that I love so much,” said Eugene Bain, councilman for the City of Othello.
“I’m choosing to raise my children here,” said Jonathan (Jon) Erickson, Bain’s opponent. “I want to help keep and improve Othello as the city we all know and love.”
“I love servicing this community,” said Miguel (Mike) Garza, current Othello School Board member. “That’s what motivates me to do this.”
“I love this community,” said Lindsy Prows, one of the school board candidates for position five. “I love our school district.”
While the candidates’ reasons for running for their respective positions were all different, each one emphasized that they would do their best to lead Othello.
“I see a lot of things that need done,” said Isauro (JR) Pruneda, also a candidate for school board position five. “No matter how you vote, you are going to get a good candidate. You are going to get someone who is going to be dedicated to the school board.”
The candidates were asked questions from the community unique to the position they are running for. Chris Darrow, a member of the City of Othello Planning Commission, was the moderator.
“You didn’t make my decisions any easier,” Darrow said at the close of the forum.
The candidates forum was organized and sponsored by GPS Financial, Basin Insurance, RDO Equipment, Johnson’s Glass and Othello Dental Arts. The forum was held at Reichert’s Showhouse.
