HAYDEN — The Community Library Network has bibliophiles covered from cover to cover.
The annual Friends of the Community Library Book Sale is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hayden Library, 8385 N. Government Way.
"We have a lot of community members who donate books," Community Library Network communications director Anne Abrams said Monday. "There are new editions and coffee table books and really beautiful pieces of literature."
Books new and used will be sold at discount prices, including $2 and $5 hardbacks. Puzzles, games, music, DVDs and more are also for sale.
"We'll have special books for people who are really into collecting," Abrams said. "A three-volume conquest of Mexico circa the 1800s, that's just an example of the eclectic things we have."
The book sale has been a long-standing tradition for the Library Network. Abrams said it dated to the early 1980s.
"We have so many readers in our community," she said. "There's a real sense of camaraderie between people who come to the book sale because everyone is a book lover."
The sale, which brings in up to $4,000 for the Library Network, helps fund programs for Athol, Harrison, Hayden, Pinehurst, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake and the Bookmobile. One such program is the Idaho Reading Week celebration at 11 a.m. Nov. 8 in the Silver Lake Mall, 200 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
The celebration will have a Dr. Seuss theme and Christian Youth Theater North Idaho will perform the fantastical musical extravaganza, "Seussical." The free show will be held in the center court. No reservations are required.
"Kids can have their pictures taken with the Cat in the Hat and receive a free book," Library Network youth services coordinator Karen Yother said. "We love giving children the opportunity to learn something new and have an adventure. We know that happens through stories and, when possible, we like to make those characters come alive."
Idaho Family Reading Week is celebrated annually by libraries statewide. Sponsored by the Idaho Commission for Libraries, the goal is to remind parents, grandparents and caregivers the importance of reading with, or to, children.
