Bee, SAR hosting candidate forum

Election Day is Tuesday. Do you know who you are going to vote for?

To help voters get to know the issues and the candidates, the Bonner County Daily Bee and Selkirk Association of Realtors are hosting a candidate forum from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at the Sandpoint Library, 1407 Cedar St. The forum also will be streamed live on the Daily Bee’s Facebook page.

All West Bonner and LPOSD trustees up for election have been invited to attend as have LPOSD officials to speak about the district’s proposed indefinite term supplemental levy. In addition, candidates for city council and mayoral races in Sandpoint, Ponderay, Dover, East Hope, Kootenai, and Priest River were invited to attend.

Candidates will give an opening statement with questions to follow.

In Clark Fork, Sharon Banning and Stanley Spanski are running for the two open seats. In Dover, Mike Davis and Freda King are running for the mayor’s seat while Dan Parkin and Tom Williams are running for the two open council seats. In East Hope, Vern Fleisher is running for reelection as mayor while Ian Barrett, Deborah Field, and Phil Kuranz are running for the two council seats up for vote.

In Kootenai, incumbent Nancy Lewis is running opposed for mayor while Bryan Black, Fabiola Ferris, and Margaret Mjelde are running for the council’s District 2 seat; and Daniel R. Schock is running unopposed for the council’s District 4 seat. In Hope, William Breen is running unopposed for mayor while Bill Percy and Bruce Stutzke and running for the two seats up for vote on the council. In Oldtown, Lonnie Orr is running unopposed for reelection to the mayor’s seat while Gary Stovall is running unopposed for the open council seat.

In Ponderay, incumbent Steve Geiger is being challenged by Tara Tribbett for the mayor’s seat while Gary Kunzeman, Brad Mitton, and Brenda Thompson are running for the two open seats on the council. The city also has a local option tax measure on the ballot.

In Priest River, Greg Edwards, Sean Schneider, Douglas A. Wagner, and write-in Billy Mullaley are running for the two four-year seats open on the council with Kevin Wylie running unopposed for a 2-year term on the council. In Sandpoint, incumbent Shelby Rognstad is being challenged by Kenneth Lawrence and Sandpoint council president Shannon Williamson. In addition, Kate McAlister, Andy Groat, Jacque Guinan, Shannon Mitchell, and incumbent Deb Ruehle are running for the three at-large seats up for election.

In the Lake Pend Oreille School District’s Zone 4, incumbent Geraldine Lewis is being challenged by Tara V. Tribbett. In the West Bonner County School District,

If you are not registered to vote, you may register and vote at your polling place on Election Day. Make sure to bring photo identification and proof of residence to register. Voters with any questions may call the Elections Office at 208-255-3631 or contact via email at elections@bonnercountyid.gov. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The forum is free to attend and open to all.
