Lindholm, Gordon chasing Labor Day golf titles

Logan Lindholm of Kalispell didn’t have the top score, or even the second best on Sunday during the second round of the 82nd annual Labor Day Tournament at Buffalo Hill Golf Club.
However his 2-under par 70 on the Championship 18 was good enough to help him retain the lead after 36 holes.
Lindholm leads Calgary’s Brock Robillard, who paced Sunday’s action with a 4-under 68, by two shots heading into today’s final round.
Brad Grattan of Whitefish carded a 69, the second best round on the second day, and trails Lindholm by three shots.
Lindholm’s 70 was the third best total for the second round.
“Hit a bunch of greens in regulation,” he said of holes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.
“But didn’t make any putts. Nothing dropped. Not a good day for the putter.”
Lindholm is a four-time winner of this event.
“I started off good, birdied the first hole,” he said.
Then he finished strong when he splashed out of the bunker on 18 to end with a par.
“Should have had an easy birdie,” he said.
Kyle Mossfeldt of Calgary and Jimmy Cowan are sitting fourth and fifth, respectively, and trail Lindholm by seven and eight shots, respectively.
Lindholm opened play on Saturday by blistering the Cameron 9 with a 59. That bogey-free round matched the record score on the Cameron 9 for tournament play.
Kali Gordon edged closer to a 3-peat in the women’s event by shooting a 69 on the Cameron 9 to go with Saturday’s 70 on the Championship 18 for a 139 total and a whopping 13 shot advantage on the field.
Janell Tanner-O’Neil had a stellar effort on the second day with a 70 for a 152 total. Tanner-O’Neil shot 82 on Saturday.
“My first day was so crazy,” Gordon said of her 69.
“Best I have ever shot on the Championship 18.”
This is Gordon’s eighth Labor Day Tournament appearance.
“I have a love, hate relationship with the Championship 18,” she said.
“If I can get through the first six holes, the back end is where I usually make up strokes.”
Gordon says she “started off cold” on Sunday with bogeys on the first three holes. She followed that with back-to-back birdies.
“I was back on track (after that),” she said.
“This has been one of my best seasons,” she added.
“It’s been awesome.”
Gordon won this event last year by 16 shots and by six in 2017.
Lindholm finished fourth a year ago.
The 54-hole event ends today.
