Sheriff: Sharp fundraiser is a scam

Beware a GoFundMe scam to allegedly benefit Army Sgt. 1st Class Brian Sharp, said the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday.
As Sheriff Ben Wolfinger explained in a press release, the Sharp family has not set up any GoFundMe accounts.
“The family of Brian Sharp advises they did not set up this account and it appears Brian’s mother’s Facebook account was hacked and someone has opened a GoFundMe page under this Facebook account,” said the release.
Outpourings of financial support for this local wounded hero are understandable in light of Friday’s massive welcome home for Sharp.
However, said the sheriff, “Brian and his family are very appreciative for all the support Brian has received, but they are not asking for any donations. They advised the welcome they received coming to the area was enough.”
Members of the public with questions about this are asked to contact local law enforcement agencies.
