KELLOGG — The Kellogg McDonald’s has been serving the Silver Valley community for nearly 30 years and will be getting a much deserved makeover in the coming weeks.

Similar to the face lifts that have occurred at the popular chain’s restaurants in the Coeur d’Alene area, the Kellogg building will be getting a more modern look and several more amenities that will make it more customer friendly.

The project will create a more modern experience that will include new self-order kiosks, a contemporary dining room, a new side-by-side drive-through lane (allowing two separate order points, which allows two different cars to be serviced at the same time) and a modern arcade style exterior.

The initial phase of the project will begin on Monday with the drive-through.

During this phase, it is expected that the drive-through will be closed roughly two-and-a-half weeks while construction is completed, but the lobby area will still be open.

Following the completion of the drive-through, the lobby will then be closed in order to finish the interior phase of the project, however the new drive-through will be ready to handle customers during that time.

The entire project should be completed by the end of October, according to owner and operator Tim Skubitz.

Skubitz also wanted to thank his customers in advance for their patience and believes that their patience will be rewarded with a better overall experience once the project is complete.

“We are excited for the future,” Skubitz said. “We value our guests and know that a little inconvenience during construction will yield a more enjoyable experience in the coming weeks.”

Last summer, McDonald’s announced that they planned to invest $6 billion to modernize most of its U.S. units by 2020 as part of the McDonald’s Experience of the Future redesign initiative.

The Kellogg McDonald’s opened almost 26 years ago to the day on Sept. 14, 1993, and over the years it has maintained and expanded its employee numbers and currently employs 55 people.

The Kellogg McDonald’s will continue to be open under its regular operating hours of 5:30 a.m. to midnight, it will just be drive-through or lobby only depending on what part of the project they are in the midst of.
