Cardinals split with NAIA foes

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Chloe Knudson, a sophomore from Lake City High, totaled 10 kills, 12 digs and two solo blocks as the North Idaho College volleyball team avenged its first loss of the season by beating NAIA University of Providence 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 at the University of Providence Fall Classic on Thursday.

Earlier Thursday, NIC fell to NAIA Carroll College of Helena, Mont., 25-18, 25-20, 25-23.

Kameryn Reynolds had 10 kills for NIC (7-1) vs. Providence. Hokulea Vargas had 14 assists, Taylor Foster four solo blocks, Elise McCammond four aces, Kynzey Mitzel three aces.

Against Carroll, Vargas had 19 assists, Mitzel 15 digs, Reynolds and Journey Tupea eight kills each for NIC.

“Overall it was a great day for everyone,” NIC coach Kelsey Stanley said. “Chloe Knudson and Kynzey Mitzel had outstanding games for us today. Their maturity on the floor helped us capture a win against University of Providence.”

NIC is scheduled to face Montana State Northern today as tourney play continues.
