After reading the My Turn article in Saturday’s paper I tossed the paper and went about my day. Later, I began to think that the article served no purpose other than to object to Mrs. Arambarri and MDA. I expect many people in Kootenai County disagree with her and perhaps don’t fully understand the specific concerns her and her group raise. That’s OK. There are other people and groups that many of us disagree with as well. Knowing that, I thought, why print this article?

A gentleman wrote comparing the terminology with those of Nazi Germany. Was there a reason The Press thought it warranted publication? I believe The Press has the right to print most anything, and I personally would defend that right. There is an assumption that what is printed has a message of some value to some people, not all, and that accurate news is also reported. Honestly, what was the purpose of this article and to whom was it intended? I also thought as an opinion piece perhaps a different picture without a military style hat would be more appropriate for this type opinion.

My intent in writing this is simply to say to the editor that all Press articles should have some redeeming value other than a blanket criticism of a fairly well-known person and organization. I didn’t see a relevant point to this whether I support or oppose groups such as Moms Demand Action. Local newspapers are essential today. In this instance, I believe The Press could have done better.
