COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint boys soccer struggled in its 4-0 non-league loss against Lake City at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Sept. 5. The loss sent the Bulldogs to a 1-3-1 record.
“There were not a lot of positives to take away from this one except for the effort of Parker Reed,” Sandpoint head coach Tanner French said. “[He] brings and maintains a very high and consistent level of energy throughout each game. He is always looking to improve his game, which is always a great thing to see from a coach’s perspective.”
Lake City’s Bryce Allred scored on an assist from Jacob Janzen in the second minute, which set the tone for the next 78 minutes of play. The Timberwolves out-shot the Bulldogs 13-3 — most of which came in the second half.
After carrying a 1-0 lead into halftime, Janzen and Landon Lee put the Timberwolves ahead with goals in the 48th and 57th minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Bulldog offense couldn’t get anything going against the Timberwolves, who are looking to build off of last year’s 5A consolation tournament title.
Freshman goalkeeper Roman Jiles notched nine saves in his fifth complete game.
“I’m very happy to put it behind us,” Sandpoint head coach Tanner French said of the game.
Sandpoint will get a chance to clear the slate next Tuesday, Sept. 10, when it opens 4A Inland Empire League play at home against Lakeland at 4:30 p.m.
