SANDPOINT — Another 3A Intermountain League opponent, another win.
On the heels of a road win over Bonners Ferry, the Sandpoint volleyball team dispatched Timberlake 25-16, 25-12, 25-16 to move not only to a perfect 3-0 record, but also a step closer to running an offense head coach Karen Alsager has envisioned.
“I felt for the first time tonight that this team might actually be able to run the offense I want them to run,” Alsager said. “My setters did a good job of pushing themselves to try to run it — it may have been a little hitchy here and there, but they made a big step tonight.”
On top of becoming acclimated to Alsager’s faster offense, the Bulldogs also tried getting junior Bella Phillips into the mix on offense for the first time this season. The results showed. Phillips had four kills, close behind Gabby Hicks’ team-leading six and Jenny Slaveck’s five.
“We’ve been begging the team to get her involved in the offense,” Alsager said. “They did it tonight and you could feel a big spark from that.”
Juniors Kaylee Banks and CeCe Deprez led the team with 11 and 8 set assists, respectively, while Deprez also added seven service aces. Hicks led the team with 11 digs.
Sandpoint will travel to Lewiston for a tournament this Saturday.
