Albertson posts 100th win as Timberlake coach

ROCKFORD, Wash. — Joey Follini rushed for three touchdowns and the Timberlake Tigers romped to a 44-12 over the Freeman Scotties in the nonleague season opener for both teams on Friday night, giving Roy Albertson his 100th victory as Timberlake coach.

Albertson, in his 17th season at Timberlake, is now 100-63 as Tigers coach.

Follini ran for 133 yards on 15 carries, scoring on runs of 12, 6 and 49 yards. Jeremy McLemore rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, and Louis Powell ran for 38 yards and a TD on nine carries.

Timberlake plays host to Moscow next Friday.

ST. MARIES — Eli Gibson rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and the host Lumberjacks (2-0) held the Cardinals (0-1) to 37 total yards in the nonleague win.

St. Maries totaled 390 yards.

Chance Baird had an interception and Dylan Larson had three sacks for St. Maries, which is home vs. Deer Park next Friday.

PLUMMER — In its season opener, the Knights’ defense allowed 276 yards, but only six points as Lakeside held off the visiting Wampus Cats in North Star League action.

“We did well, especially on defense. They held the ball for most of the game, running 69 plays to our 34, but we had some great holds,” Knights coach Chris Dohrman. “Defensively we bent but didn’t break, and on offense we did just enough.”

Lakeside rushed for 214 yards, with rushing touchdowns from Vincent Howard, Jayson Hall and Devin Arroyo. Hall caught an 18-yard scoring strike from Tucker Sanchez for the Knights’ other score, which put them ahead 20-0 early in the third quarter.

Lakeside is off next week, then hosts Mullan-St. Regis on Sept. 20.

MEAD — Brielle Nagel had 12 kills for the visiting Trojans, who dropped two close sets to the Wildcats in a 25-14, 25-23, 25-23 nonleague loss.

Ali Carpenter had 20 digs, Kassie Gardiner 18 assists for Post Falls (1-3). Kamden Fiddes and Hanna Christensen had three blocks each, and Maya Blake and Brooklyn Minden had two aces each.

“Our girls battled hard tonight,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “Mt. Spokane is a strong team and we were right there with them. Despite the loss our defense shined. We racked up over 60 digs as a team. Kassie Gardiner also had a great game running our offense and digging her position. I like the progress this young team is making.”

Post Falls plays host to Moscow on Tuesday.

Cd’A Charter d. Genesis Prep

COEUR d’ALENE — Megan MacKinney had six kills and 13 aces as the host Panthers swept the Jaguars 25-4, 25-4, 25-6 at Holy Family Catholic School.

Rylee Peterson, Maddie Kociela and Julia Haag had five kills each, and Quincy Rigg had 12 assists for Charter (3-0), which travels to Timberlake on Thursday to begin Intermountain League play.
