PROPOSED NATIONAL FOREST TIMBER SALE Idaho Panhandle National Forests St. Joe Ranger District St. Maries, Idaho The IDAHO PANHANDLE NATIONAL FORESTS will be offering, during the fall of 2019, the North Siwash Timber Sale. The proposed North Siwash Timber Sale is located in portions of sections 25, 26, 34, 35, 36, T45N, R5E and portions of sections 1, 2, 11, 12, T44N, R5E and portions of sections 30, 31, T45N, R6E, Shoshone County, State of Idaho, BM. The proposed Timber Sale lies in the St. Joe River drainage within the tributaries of Siwash Creek. The project is approximately 36 miles east of St. Maries, Idaho. The North Siwash Timber Sale Area can be accessed from St. Maries Idaho by driving 46 miles East on Forest Highway 50 to Avery, Idaho. The Sale is accessed via the FR1237 (Kelly Creek) and FR1235 (Shoshone) and FR390 (North Siwash) along with various other roads located within the Sale Area. A forest service key will need to be checked out to access units on FR1235. The proposed Timber Sale will harvest approximately 588 acres. The estimated timber volume associated with the project is 70,358 Tons of sawlog material and 4,267 tons of non-saw material. Volume estimates are subject to change. An estimated 61% of the North Siwash Timber Sale will be harvested using a skyline yarding system while the remaining 39% will be harvested using ground based logging systems. The maximum external yarding distance is estimated at 1,730 feet. The North Siwash Timber Sale will require the Purchaser to reconstruct 23.03 miles of system road to access included timber. Some temporary road construction will be required to access timber sale units. This is an opportunity for prospective bidders to visit the area before the proposed Timber Sale is offered for bid in fall of 2019.
