The Troy Trojans football team suffered a season-opening 64-18 loss to Arlee Friday night.

Despite the defeat, Troy second-year head coach Lucas Haggerty said his squad was determined to “not let this game define our season.”

“Our motto is to ‘End the Streak,’” Haggerty said. “This is not what we were looking for and we expect a lot better.”

The Trojans last win over a varsity squad was Oct. 16, 2015 when it beat Thompson Falls, 35-32.

Haggerty doesn’t count a 33-32 win in 2017 against Hot Springs. The team didn’t have enough players for varsity and played all junior varsity players.

Trojans senior quarterback Terren Winebark led the team with 204 yards passing on 15 of 33 passing, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also ran for 17 yards on five carries.

Senior receivers Ricki Fisher and Dylan Peterson were Winebark’s primary receivers Friday. Fisher caught six passes for 89 yards and one TD while Peterson tallied seven catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Also, Kolten Lewis had 42 yards on two catches.

Defensively, Winebark led the team with 13 tackles, including eight solo. Peterson added 10 stops, five solo.

“It’s been 1,414 days since we had a varsity win. The kids have been in the weight room since January working hard, so we’re ready to get a win,” Haggerty said.

The Trojans will play at defending Class C 8-man state champ Flint Creek co-op that includes Drummond and Granite.
