COEUR d’ALENE — Journey Tupea had 11 kills and 12 digs, Taylor Foster 10 kills and six blocks for North Idaho College in a 25-13, 25-21, 25-21 win over the Big Bend Vikings to open Northwest Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at Christianson Gym.
Lake City High product Chloe Knudson had 16 digs, Kameryn Reynolds six kills, Kynzey Mitzel 10 digs and Hokulea Vargas 32 assists for NIC (9-2), which competes in the Spokane Crossover on Friday at Spokane Falls Community College.
NIC will face Mt. Hood at 2:30 p.m., then take on Skagit Valley at 6:30.
Sadie Nielsen had seven kills for Big Bend (7-5).

COEUR d’ALENE — Hailee Mize stopped all three shots on goal for the Cardinals in a win over the Knights in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both at Eisenwinter Field.
Berenice Chavez scored two goals in the first half and Autumn Stewart added a goal in the 85th minute for NIC (3-1-2), which hosts Yakima Valley on Saturday at noon.
“Hailee played excellent in goal,” NIC coach Dan Hogan said. “But she cut out some long crosses as well that could have been dangerous had they gotten through. Berenice got us out to a nice start with a couple of goals.”
Wenatchee Valley is 2-2-0.

COEUR d’ALENE — The visiting Knights scored three unassisted goals in the first half to hold off the Cardinals in the Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both at Eisenwinter Field.
“We strung a lot of good things together in the first half, but just couldn’t connect in the final third of the field,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “Wenatchee was well organized and were a little more athletic than they’ve been in a while. They did a good job of putting away their chances.”
NIC (2-3-1) travels to Blue Mountain of Pendleton, Ore., on Sept. 20.
Wenatchee Valley is 2-1-1.
