Mercer earns medalist honors in Butte, Glacier boys second

BUTTE — Flathead Bravettes golfer Marcella Mercer took medalist honors at the Butte-Anaconda Golf Tournament at Butte Country Club on Thursday.

In second after the first day of action, Mercer shot 75 for 157 to surge past Cora Rosanova of Bozeman, who was Wednesday’s leader.

Rosanova finished third. Sami Yates, also of Bozeman, shot 79 for 161.

Jillian Wynne of Flathead finished sixth with 80 for 167 strokes.

For Glacier, Abi Manger was 12th and Hannah Nikunen 15th.

The Flathead girls team placed third overall with 772 and Glacier’s 831 was fourth.

In the boys field, Flathead’s Ezra Epperly’s 75 was good enough for fourth.

Bozeman brothers Jordan Verge and Justus Verge placed first and second respectively.

Keaton Cassidy of Glacier, tied for second after Day 1, slipped to sixth place, carding 77 for 156.

Glacier’s Tyler Avery and Coby Kunda were eighth and 11th respectively.

Glacier boys took second place in the team competition with 638.

Bozeman swept both the boys and girls team standings.
