Met Opera Live in HD sets schedule
Sally Murdock Special to This Week in Flathead | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 5 years, 4 months AGO
The Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcasts begin again in mid-October at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.
This season, the Met has chosen a bold array of operas to broadcast in HD around the world. This season offers three well-known Puccini favorites (“Turandot,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Tosca”), but it also includes some lesser-known operas by famous composers (“Manon,” “Wozzeck,” “The Flying Dutchman,” “Maria Stuarda”).
The Met will also feature a modern opera (Philip Glass’ “Akhnaten”) in November, and in February it presents a Baroque opera set in modern times (Handel’s “Agrippina”). Probably the most popular broadcast of the upcoming season will be George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess.”
The 2019-20 season at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center includes 10 operas broadcast from mid-October through early May, all shown at 10:55 a.m. Saturdays, all with English subtitles, and all including generous intermissions. Tickets at the Whitefish PAC remain at $20 adults/$5 students/$10 college students, cash or check, purchased at the door. A season ticket bundle (i.e., a single ticket for each of the 10 broadcasts) will be available for $180 (10 operas for the price of 9). Season ticket bundles are available for purchase at the door or contact Carol Atkinson in advance (406-862-7591 or rhcbatkinson@hotmail.com.
