RATHDRUM — Abbey Neff had 41 assists and the host Lakeland Hawks, after dropping the first two sets, rallied to beat the Moscow Bears 22-25, 21-25, 25-12, 25-19, 15-12 in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both schools Saturday at Hawk Court.

Katy Ryan had 17 kills, Daphne Carroll 14 for Lakeland (7-2). Olivia Cooper had 22 digs, Madison Van Gelder four aces, Sarah Pope six blocks.

“Moscow came out strong and played hard. Moscow has great defense and dug a lot of our hits,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “Our girls fought back and play hard. We controlled the ball well and were able to speed up the tempo a lot of the time. I am very proud how hard our girls played today.”

Lakeland travels to Sandpoint on Tuesday in 4A IEL play.

Cd’A finishes in top 8 at 48-team tourney

YAKIMA, Wash. — Coeur d’Alene went 2-0-1 in pool play, but injuries eventually caught up with the Vikings at the SunDome Volleyball Festival at the SunDome.

Coeur d’Alene beat Kennewick 25-13, 25-15 and Selah 25-15, 25-15, and tied Lynden Christian 25-19, 26-27 to win its pool.

But in the eight-team bracket for pool winners, the Vikings lost to King’s 25-23, 25-13 and then to Gonzaga Prep 25-10, 25-23.

Coeur d’Alene lost two players to injuries during the tournament, but still finished in the top eight of the 48-team tourney.

Elly Schraeder totaled 23 kills, five blocks and four aces on the day for Coeur d’Alene (9-2). Sarah Wilkey added 21 kills and 15 digs, Madi Symons 20 kills and five blocks, Lauren Phillips 50 assists and 17 digs, Courtney Garwood 45 assists and four aces, Maggie Bloom 36 digs, Paige Drechsel 15 digs and seven aces.

Coeur d’Alene plays at Lake City on Tuesday.

Post Falls wins bronze bracket at SunDome tourney

YAKIMA, Wash. — After suffering a setback to open pool play and splitting with Chelan, Post Falls won four straight matches, sweeping play to win the bronze bracket at the SunDome Volleyball Festival at The SunDome.

Post Falls lost 26-24, 26-24 to Ellensburg, then split with Chelan 26-24, 25-27 and beat Hermiston 25-15, 25-12.

“Pool play didn’t go the way we wanted it to go,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We ended up losing the tiebreaker, but could have gone 6-0 in pool play. We just made a few unforced errors.”

Post Falls swept the bronze bracket, beating Davis of Yakima 25-10, 25-17, Selah 25-20, 25-10 and Eastlake 25-22, 25-14.

“Once we got rolling, we really played with a lot of energy,” Barkley said. “We just played our game the rest of the day and played up tempo with a purpose to finish on a high note.”

Brielle Nagel had 41 kills and five blocks, Kassie Gardiner 66 assists, Brooke Minden 58 assists, Maya Blake eight aces, Madison John five blocks, Ali Carpenter 68 digs and Emily Schlothauer five blocks for Post Falls (7-5), which travels to Lewiston in 5A Inland Empire League play on Thursday.

St. Maries

ST. MARIES — Megan MacKinney had five kills, 12 assists and seven aces for the Panthers in a 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 nonleague win over the Lumberjacks.

Maddie Kociela had five kills and two aces, Julia Haag three kills and three blocks, Rylee Peterson six kills and Quincy Rigg eight assists for Coeur d’Alene Charter (4-1), which visits Kellogg in Intermountain League play on Tuesday.

“We served and passed the ball very well today,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Cindy Beyer said. “St. Maries is always fun to play and plays really good defense.”

Kirsten Miller had five kills, Sami Badgett five kills, Mackenzie Hammond 13 assists and two aces and Jayden Martin two aces and 11 digs for St. Maries (0-8), which hosts Timberlake on Thursday.

Lakeside

CLARK FORK — The visiting Knights rallied to force a fifth set, but the Wampus Cats recovered and prevailed, 25-8, 27-25, 21-25, 15-25, 15-7, in North Star League play.

Tenley Lambert had five kills and 10 digs for Lakeside (2-2, 0-1 NSL). Kria Peters had 22 assists for the Knights, and Glory Olson had five kills and two aces.

“It was a really good match,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “We played more aggressive halfway through the second set, and in the third and fourth, and just had some miscues in the fifth set.

“Clark Fork’s a solid team; they played well.”

Lakeside plays host to Mullan on Tuesday.
