Lake City soccer teams win league openers

LEWISTON — Second-half goals from Jackson Henkle and Devin Claflin, with Bryce Allred assisting on both, led Lake City to a 3-1 victory at Lewiston on Monday afternoon.
Allred also assisted on Noah Janzen’s first-half goal, which put the visiting Timberwolves ahead 32 minutes into the game. The Bengals, despite being outshot 15-7 in the game, tied it early in the second half on Emmanuel Regennitter’s goal.
Tyler Allred had six saves for Lake City (4-0-2 overall, 1-0 5A IEL), which travels to Sandpoint on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest.

T-Wolf girls shut out Lewiston
COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Maddy Lasher had two first-half goals, and teammate Lily Fletcher added a goal and assist as Lake City’s girls shut out visiting Lewiston 5-0 on Monday afternoon in the Timberwolves’ 5A Inland Empire League opener.
Kali McKellips scored just before intermission to put Lake City ahead 4-0, then assisted on Fletcher’s goal in the second half.
“The game was in hand by halftime, and that allowed us to get a lot of different looks with different players,” Timberwolves coach Matt Ruchti said. “It was our first league game and I was happy with our effort.”
Lake City (3-1, 1-0) hosts Sandpoint under the lights at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
