COEUR d’ALENE — It took a couple of minutes, maybe the entire match, but Lake City found just enough to get a nonleague win under the lights of the school’s football field on Wednesday night.

Lily Fletcher and Maddy Smith scored goals for the Timberwolves in a 2-0 win over the Sandpoint Bulldogs.

“It’s a different dynamic playing on the football field, and it plays a role in the game,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “For both teams, it took a while to find a rhythm, but each of our players worked hard the entire night. It was definitely a grind out win for us, and I was proud of everyone for doing their part.”

Hailey Jo Parks had eight saves for Lake City (4-1), which plays host to Coeur d’Alene for a 5A Inland Empire League match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Saturday at noon.

Sandpoint is 6-2.

POST FALLS — Sarah Hines recorded a hat trick, Cadence Wilson had a goal and assist and the Panthers shut out the Spartans in an Intermountain League match on a rainy night at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

“We’ve now experienced what it’s like to play on wet turf,” said Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith, whose team is playing its home matches at the turf fields in Post Falls. “Although we have some speed, our players had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the ball on the wet surface. We adjusted a little in the second half and were able to string together more passes to have good looks in front of the net.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (5-0, 5-0 IML) travels to Bonners Ferry today at 5 p.m.

COEUR d’ALENE — As Lake City coach Mike Summers explained, it was a night where the Timberwolves had to bring their own intensity into the gym.

It was almost enough to knock off the defending Washington state 3A champions.

Janae Rayborn had 20 digs, 14 kills and three aces for the Timberwolves, who fell to the Wildcats 28-26, 25-23, 19-25, 20-25, 15-12 in a nonleague match at Lake City High.

“The first set was a heartbreaker with a few errors in the end,” Summers said. “We just kind of played flat and bring some energy, because it was flat for some season. The girls went out and did their best, but just came up a little short. After that third set, we talked to them and challenged them to make a play. They had to create their own energy and used that momentum through the fourth set. We kind of just got stuck at 10 points in the fifth and they made a run. It’s a good learning experience, but I’m super proud of the girls defensively. We had some girls step in and play some different roles really well.”

Jaya Miller had 20 digs, Nellie Reece 26 assists, Hanah Stoddard 15 assists and five blocks, Brenna Hawkins six blocks and Kate DuCoeur 13 kills for Lake City (5-1), which hosts Eagle on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Malina Ama had 16 kills and four aces, Leilani Ama 32 assists and Taylor Miche 23 digs for Mt. Spokane (4-0).

SANDPOINT — Tate Novak had two assists and a goal, Bryce Allred two assists and Jacob Janzen two goals to lead the Timberwolves past the Bulldogs in a nonleague match at Memorial Field.

“The guys really played well tonight and executed the type of play we have been practicing in training,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “I am pleased with the progress we continue to make as we enter the second half of our season. We were organized on defense, controlled the midfield and had solid goalkeeping with a couple of key saves from point blank range.”

Lake City (5-0-2), which has won five straight since opening the season with back-to-back draws with Moscow, travels to Coeur d’Alene on Saturday at noon.

POST FALLS — Sporadic rain didn’t prevent the host Panthers from firing plenty of shots at the Spartans, with four of them finding the net before intermission as Charter rolled to an Intermountain League victory at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

Jordan Gallegoes scored the first of his two goals one minute into the game for Charter (5-1, 4-1 IML), which travels to Bonners Ferry tonight for a key league matchup.

“It was a decent game for us; by scoring four first-half goals, we were able to get a lot of players into the game,” Panthers coach Justin Nitti said. “(Tonight’s) game with Bonners Ferry should be a challenge for us. They’re a strong opponent.”
