COEUR d’ALENE — The fifth annual PARK(ing) It on Sherman will be taking over the intersection of 14th Street and East Sherman Avenue from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The free community block party will temporarily turn parking spaces into public spaces as part of PARK(ing) Day, a global day that happens every September to give people opportunities to rethink how public spaces are used.

The event is led by CDA 2030 in partnership with the city of Coeur d'Alene.

"PARK(ing) It on Sherman is a great event to celebrate achievements, and to create awareness while gathering enthusiasm for future progress," said CDA 2030 project manager Nicole Kahler.

The evening will be packed with entertainment and fun for the whole family — live music, raffle prizes, a youth bike rodeo, doggie scavenger hunt, free photo booth, long putt competition, dance performances and appearances by the Coeur d'Alene Police Department's Community Action Team and by the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.

Food and beverage available for purchase, beer gardens will be open for those 21 and older and farmers market vendors will be on site.

CDA 2030 formed to start a community-wide conversation about what people envisioned for the future of Coeur d'Alene. It continues to gather information from community members as it collaborates with businesses, government, civic groups and the community at large to create a bright future for the community and for future generations.

The CDA 2030 sixth anniversary celebration will take place during the PARK(ing) It on Sherman event.

The event is part of the master planning efforts to revitalize East Sherman.
