BONNERS FERRY — Two hundred feet of pavement for the northbound lane and center turn lane of U.S. 95 will be removed starting from Alderson Lane. The contractor has begun work replacing the pavement and will spend a few days alternating between paving the main lanes and driveways.

The Idaho Transportation Department tests materials placed by contractors to ensure a quality job and that the taxpayer dollars are well spent. The tests are done multiple times a day.

“For paving, these tests look at various properties such as air voids, density, voids in mineral aggregate, etc.,” said Megan Sausser, Idaho Transportation Department public information specialist.. “Contractors also test their materials, and when those results differ from ITD’s, the contractor may elect to dispute ITD’s results.”

At that point, a third party then samples the materials. The results ended with the section of highway being replaced.

“To stay on schedule, the contractor will be working some Saturdays,” said Sausser. “Weather permitting, the highway will reopen with fresh pavement and striping the last week in September.”

“Work will be done by winter, so there will be no impacts,” Sausser said.
