SANDPOINT — Wild Idaho Rising Tide is demonstrating against the U.S. Coast Guard’s issuance of a finding of no significant impact on a second set of BNSF Railway Co. bridges across Lake Pend Oreille and Sand Creek on Saturday.

The protest will begin at 1 p.m. with a global climate strike and a 2 p.m. march in opposition to the BNSF bridge plans. Protesters are gather at Farmin Park at Third and Main.

Environmental and conservation groups have been calling on regulators to subject the proposal to an environmental impact statement under the National Environmental Policy Act. The project was subjected to a environmental assessment, as less rigorous analysis under NEPA.
