COEUR d’ALENE — It had been a while, but things kind of repeated themselves on Saturday at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

McKenzie Mattis scored off a deflection in the 65th minute as visiting Coeur d’Alene held off Lake City 1-0 in a 5A Inland Empire League match on Saturday for the Vikings’ first win over the Timberwolves since 2016 — also a 1-0 finish.

“Coeur d’Alene definitely earned that moment for sure,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “I’ve got to do a better job of eliminating distractions and getting our team ready to play in games like this. We just didn’t do enough to deserve a better result, and that’s on me. Hats off to Coeur d’Alene, they defended hard throughout the game and got a counterattack goal to give them an opportunity, and we didn’t have the normal level of fight we needed to in order to win this game.”

Coeur d’Alene (2-3-2, 1-0-1 5A IEL) hosts Lewiston on Tuesday.

Lake City (4-2, 1-1) travels to Lakeland on Monday.

LEWISTON — Kamryn Becker scored two goals in the second half as the Trojans railled to beat the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match at Walker Field.

“The Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule is pretty brutal for the starters and a long bus ride had us a little on our heels in the first half,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “Give Lewiston credit, they had a solid gameplan and gave us a tough fight. I’m glad to have gotten out of there with the W. It was a great team win, and would have been easy to fold up after giving up two early goals, but they dug in deep and played better in the second half.

Ashley Grant had five saves for Post Falls (3-3-2, 1-0-1 5A IEL) hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

Lewiston is 0-2 in league.

SPIRIT LAKE — Freshman Hadley West made the most of her move to forward after playing as a defender for the first part of the season.

West scored in the 63rd minute for the Tigers (5-4, 5-2 IML) in a victory over the Bulldogs at Timberlake High.

“Hadley had to beat a couple of defenders, but got past them and got a good look at the goal,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “It was good for her because she normally doesn’t play forward and Hadley’s usually a midfielder/defender. We had to get a little creative with our lineup due to injuries, and that one worked out for us.”

Timberlake hosts Priest River on Tuesday.

ROCKFORD, Wash. — The host Scotties scored in the 26th and 77th minutes and handed the Panthers their first loss since 2016 in the nonleague game. Coeur d’Alene Charter had gone 41-0-1 over its last 42 matches.

“This was a great opportunity for us to face a talented team,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “The girls played very aggressively and didn’t back down. We were frantic offensively so we struggled building a lot of opportunities in front of the net, and the opportunities we got we just didn’t capitalize on. Freeman put away two of our defensive mistakes, but overall I’m proud of how strong our players were on the ball and how well we defended.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-1) travels to St. Maries on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Noah Cobb’s goal on an assist from Alex Reyes in the 53rd minute was the difference for the Vikings in a win over the visiting Timberwolves in 5A Inland Empire League play.

“The game was pretty much as anticipated,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “Lake City has a lot of strong players that feed well into their direct form of soccer. With a few formation changes, we were almost impenetrable defensively with our backl line. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with how the boys played.”

Coeur d’Alene (3-2, 1-1 5A IEL) travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.

Lake City (5-1-2, 1-1) hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

“We weren’t focused on the field and didn’t play as a team and didn’t execute anything like we had in previous games,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We simply got outplayed and outworked, and weren’t good enough today.”

POST FALLS — Aidan O’Halloran and Ethan Lawson had two first half goals for the Trojans in a 5A Inland Empire League romp of the Bengals at Post Falls High.

“We’ve been putting it together each match, and today was having our expectations come to fruition,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “Lewiston was behind the entire game and got a little scrappy, but with how we moved the ball, they had a hard time stopping the ball.”

Alex Lopez scored two goals in the second half for Post Falls (6-0, 2-0 5A IEL), which travels to Lake City on Tuesday.

“The score isn’t reflective of how close the game really was,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “We were able to move the ball around and work on some things in practice this week that led to the boys having more vision of the field. From a coaching standpoint, it was a good game for the boys.”
