OTHELLO - Othello police saved the life of a 20-year-old man early Saturday morning by administering Narcan, an overdose-reversing drug.

Othello police responded to the 600 block of South Kristina Road to assist first responders with a 20-year-old male who was reportedly purple and was barely breathing, Othello police stated early Saturday morning.

Officers recognized signs of a potential opioid overdose and administered a dose of nasal Naloxone also known as Narcan.

The male began breathing properly and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. All police officers in the Othello Police Department are trained in and issued Narcan.

Despite the controversy surrounding the use of Narcan, Othello police Assistant Chief David Rehaume said he believes it is a good tool for officers to carry on the force.
