Gayle Darlene Thaxter, 91, passed away Sept. 15, 2019, at Guardian Angel Homes, in Lewiston, Idaho.

Gayle was born Jan. 13, 1928, to Ruth and Lloyd Poirier, in Great Falls, Mont. She was raised in Great Falls and attended Saint Mary’s High School there.

She married Floyd Thaxter in 1946 and they made their home in Coeur d’Alene, where they raised four children: John Thaxter, Jackie Huston, Vicky Miles and Steven Thaxter.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed swimming, bowling and working in her flower gardens. She had a great love for animals and traveling.

Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd and son, John.

There will be a small graveside service at 1 p.m. on Sept. 27, 2019, at Forest Cemetery, 1011 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene.

Gayle’s family would like to thank Guardian Angel Homes of Lewiston for their exceptional loving care. We would like to also thank Yates Funeral Home for their above and beyond service.

GNP needs to reconsider

It is with great dismay that I recently learned of the National Park Service’ plans to start a process of eliminating the historic red “jammer” busses from Glacier National Park. Apparently this action has been initiated with little public input or consultation.
